Billericay pupil wins school £2k by building a stadium with toilet paper tubes

A BILLERICAY primary school is celebrating after winning a borough-wide competition. St Peter's Catholic Primary School won £2,012 to spend on sporting equipment in a contest to create an Olympic stadium from recycled materials. ​ WINNER: Francesca Foster with council and Festival Leisure representatives CMCR20120717A-092_C Pupil Francesca Foster, in Year One at the Coxes Farm Road school, made the winning entry out of cardboard boxes, newspaper, toilet rolls and foil. The six-year-old's design received more than 9,000 votes out of 26,000 that were placed. Head teacher John Peoples said: "The prize money will go a long way towards improving our indoor PE facilities. "All the children thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the competition as part of our Olympic-themed Week, which we held in school. The competition was organised by Festival Leisure Park and Basildon Council. Peter Scopes, manager of Festival Leisure Park, said: "2012 is a year of sport for the country and it is fantastic to reward the community in some way."
